PICTURES RUNNING EVENT |

Lucerne's yearly running event took place on April, 30, 2005 for the
28th time. The weather was sunny and warm.
Running is very popular in Switzerland. More than 800,000 persons
(11 % of Switzerland's total population) are active runners,
joggers or nordic walkers. This year, 22 cities and alpine resorts
organize so-called popular races.

As most city races, the Luzerner Stadtlauf has different routes for elite runners (about 10 rounds = 8.565 km / 5.32 miles), normal adults and children/families (about 1.55 km / 0.96 mile). Individual time stamping for more than 13,000 thousand participants (8% of the Lucerne metropolitan area population) is based on starting numbers with integrated computer chips.

And those who are definitively too small to run themselves ride in a "sports car" ... |
... or on mama's back. |
Besides categories for children, families, men, women and elite (professional) runners, Lucerne with it's rich carnival tradition also offers a so-called "Plauschkategorie" [fun category].
