Pilatus [Mount Pilate]

Mt Pilate (2106 m / 6909 ft) is Lucerne's "home mountain". It can be reached either by public bus #1 to Kriens and a three-section cableway (north face) or by ship / railway to Alpnachstad and world's steepest cogwheel train (south face). Of course, you can also climb up there in summer on one of several marked hiking-trails. Good shoes are required, but even children used to hiking in the mountains will reach the top within half a day.
